Overview:
Smithsonian researchers used optical technology to play back the unplayable record of a wax-and-cardboard disc from April 15, 1885. The recording was found to be of Alexander Graham Bell speaking.

Analysis:
If the reversals believed to be found are accurate, they may be the oldest known examples of Reverse Speech! Also, if accurate the reversals suggest that Alexander Graham Bell had a mistress. At the time of this recording Bell was married to Mabel Hubbard, and had 2 daughters.

Brackets [ ] indicate where the reversal occurs. Click on the reversal to hear the audio.

Hear my voice. [Alexander] [Graham Bell]. (full audio no reversals)

[Alexander]

I love Sheila.

[Graham Bell]

I won't marry.

(The message in the reversals is "I love Sheila. I won't marry.")
